Lusaka

Zambia’s capital Lusaka with its 2,2 Million residents is one of those typical bland African capitals (or big cities) conceived on the drawing board, projected, artificial, thrown together. Despite the poverty in Zambia as well as the migration into the city, Lusaka comes across as a quite relaxed place. Where the towns of the Copperbelt are workers towns, Livingstone a tourist town and Chipata a trade town, Lusaka is a business town, a place where people come for business – whatever that means. Therefor, Lusaka is growing all the time, incorporating more and more adjacent villages and towns.

Sambias Hauptstadt Lusaka, die heute mehr als zwei Millionen Einwohner hat, ist eine der typisch gesichtslosen afrikanischen Groß- oder Hauptstädte, denen man das Künstliche, Geplante und Zusammengewürfelte sofort ansieht. Doch trotz sambischer Armut und der aufgrund der Landflucht rasch wachsenden Einwohnerzahl Lusakas, wirkt die Stadt dennoch einigermaßen entspannt. Wo die Städte des Kupfergürtels Arbeiterstädte sind, Livingstone eine Touristenstadt und Chipata eine Handelsstadt ist, handelt es sich bei Lusaka um eine Business-Stadt, wo die Menschen hinkommen, um Geschäfte zu machen – was auch immer das bedeuten mag. Deshalb wächst Lusaka beständig und verleibt sich nach und nach angrenzende Orte mit ein.
