Die Tsingy rouge liegen südlich von Antsiranana (Diego-Suarez) und sind wie der Cirque rouge nahe Mahajanga und La Vallée im Ankarafantsika Nationalpark ein Produkt von Rodung sowie der daraus resultierenden Erosion und wurden erst in jüngerer Vergangenheit entdeckt. Die Formationen verändern sich mit jeder Regenzeit und werden wohl wie ihre südlicheren Pendants irgendwann vollständig weggewaschen. Vom Rand der Formationen aus Fels und Sand kann man sogar den nahen Indischen Ozean sehen, von wo die verheerenden tropischen Zyklone Anfang jedes Jahres auf die madegassische Ostküste treffen, an der Küste nagen und im Inland alles wegspülen, was nicht vom Wurzelwerk einer gesunden Vegetation zusammengehalten wird.
Just like the Cirque rouge near Mahajanga as well as La Vallée at Ankarafantsika National Park, the Tsingy rouge south of Antsiranana (Diego-Suarez) are a product of deforestation and the following erosion. Only recently discovered, this rock formation is changing its looks with every rainy season, and it is very likely that it will be washed away in the future just like its more southerly counterparts. From the top of those rock and sand formations, one can already see the nearby Indian Ocean from where devastating tropical cyclones are approaching the island every beginning of the year. They hit the east coast, nibbling on the shoreline and washing away everything that is not held together by the roots of a healthy vegetation.
