Near the village of Chamarel just outside Black River Gorges National Park in Mauritius southwest, the 7 Coloured Earth is one of the major tourist attractions in the area – when it comes to the tour operators that bring them there in big busses, minibuses, taxis and what else might carry a few tourists. For yet unidentified reasons, there´s nothing growing on a couple of hills with sand of different tones of red and yellow and orange – in the middle of a patch of rainforest. Just before you reach the 7 Coloured Earth, there´s a viewpoint for picturesque Cascade Chamarel, a waterfall where the water drops for dramatic 100 metres.
